DNC

DNC

This past week was the Democratic National Convention (DNC).  I was privileged to volunteer as a member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Urban League. I use the word “privileged” because regardless of the outcome of the election, history was made because a woman was finally nominated by a major political party of the United States of America as a candidate for the office of president.  While there, I met and talked to a lot of people from various ethnic backgrounds, age groups, religions and walks of life.

Many attendees of the DNC expressed their deep concerns about Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump and his comments that he “alone” could solve the problems that are plaguing our country. I don’t know about you, but when someone elevates himself to the level of “savior” I have strong reservations about them.  As a bible-believing Christian, my perspective is very simple.  There is only one Savior - Jesus Christ.  John 14:6 states “I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father but by me.” Isaiah 9:6 says, “ … and the government shall be upon his shoulders and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

While no human’s judgment is perfect, I believe that Hillary Clinton is on the right track.  Her impressive track record of service speaks volume and shows her dedication to living out her Methodist roots.  She understands that it “takes a village” and like her campaign slogan says, “We are stronger together.”  No matter what you do in this life, you will need help. Poet John Donne summed it up by saying, “No man is an island.”

So in closing, when you go to the polls in November and vote for the candidate of your choice, please remember that regardless of who is elected, they will need the support of many politicians in congress be they Republican or Democratic to successfully complete the task of running the country in a way which benefits us all.  Most of all, they will need our prayers in order to lead this country in the direction that would honor and most please God.

Blessings!
