Fathers' Day

Fathers’ Day

Fathers’ Day, the third Sunday in June, is a day set aside to honor fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and those males in a person’s life who mentored or stepped up to the plate and “stood in the gap” for a missing father of someone. In the natural, when we think of fathers, we often think of a male who protects and provides for his family.  We also may think of a male who has wisdom and imparts it to his children in order to help them make good decisions which will impact their lives.

The scriptures tell us that we can get good counsel from listening to the wisdom our fathers have to offer us. Two examples of this are: Psalms 78:3 (“Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.”) and Job 15:18 (“Which wise men have told from their fathers and have not hid it.”).

Now switch gears from the natural to the spiritual.  If we were to take a biblical perspective, we can see that GOD, who performs all of the things that a “good” father does in the natural, also helps us when we are trying to find our way. Psalms 37:23 informs us that, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”  However, God in his benevolence has added a few more things such as: grace, a plan of salvation and the gift of His son, the Lord Jesus.

So in addition to getting advice from your human dad, take a minute or two and remember that you have a heavenly father who you can go to at anytime for direction in how to live a life of victory which glories Him!
