Birthdays have a way of making you aware of just how many years and events, have occurred. As you moonwalk down memory lane, specific sights, sounds or even scents may come to mind. For instance, when you travelled to an exotic location, bought a house, graduated from college, got married, or gave birth to your first child.
You reflect on the speed which months and years fly by when reminiscing about favorite dishes your mother or grandmother might have prepared for you on your “special day.” Childhood friends and songs that at one time made you smile, now remind you of how you can no longer run or dance with the same vigor as you did 20 or 30 years ago.
Each celebrated birthday forces you to put into perspective where you are and have been in the grand scheme of things – and in what direction you are going. Ecclesiastes 3: 1- 11 talks about the seasons of one’s life and how God has specifically placed the natural order of life.
It is because of this introspective exercise that reviewing your walk with the Lord becomes so important. Take some time each day, to just give Him praise for being who He is, thank Him for his grace and mercy toward you, seek courage and His wisdom for making decisions, and ask Him daily for help in navigating this walk called life.
Each day is a gift from God, filled with surprises – some of them good and some not so much. So go ahead and blow out the candles on that cake and make a wish.
The real question is, what are you going to do with the remaining birthdays that you have ?
Blessings.
