It’s the end of January. The end of the first month of a new year. Some people may be starting a new job, while others may be gaining new additions to their families, or have gotten married and find themselves involved in a “new relationship” with their husband or wife and therefore are having to face new challenges. We have a new president who has a new attitude about how he believes things should be. Undoubtedly, he will make policy changes based on his “new ideas” and those ideas may not be popular ones.
In spite of all of this “newness,” we need to keep in mind that as believers we are to have a “new mindset” daily. Romans 12:2 states: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
I remember reading the words on a poster in my parents’ home that states, “Every day is a new beginning.” If you think about it in realistic terms, the mistakes of the previous day, week, year are done. We can’t change them. However, what is happening right now and what will happen in the future we can change if our mindset changes.
If we go to our “owner’s manual” (the bible) it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; …” Once you have accepted Christ as your personal savior, you have become a “new” and different being and have started on building and developing a relationship with Him.
As Christians it is our hope that when this earthly life ends we shall be changed and will begin our “new life” with God and when the world as we know it ends, God and His people will begin living in a “new world.” Revelation 21 verses 1, 4 and 5 puts it this way:
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
I say all of this to remind you that new can be a little disconcerting at first. We may not like making changes but change is inevitable both in the natural and in the spiritual realms. Why not adapt a “new mindset” and change your mind about how you view the things happening in your life and make the best of them. Find a way to serve and honor God in a “new” way.
Blessings!
