Valentine's Day

February 14th, a day when many are exchanging cards and/or gifts, giving flowers and/or candy and are professing their Eros/romantic love appreciation for another.  This is all fine well and good, BUT, in addition to romantic love; there is a greater love that we as Christians have. The love that I’m referring to is inclusive to all regardless of whether you are single or married.

That love is an unconditional love that God has for all of us through the gift of His son Jesus to us – and the promise of salvation and everlasting life which comes with our acceptance of Him as our Lord and Savior. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Love is demonstrated by actions not just words.  God fully demonstrated His love for us when He sent us Jesus.  Jesus fully demonstrated His love for us when He died on the cross at Calvary.  John 15:13 says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”  Ephesians 5:8.

So this Valentine’s Day, whether single or married, don’t forget to show your ultimate Valentine – Jesus some love, and thank Him!
